April 2020 - Online C . L . A . S . S . (Corona Learning Assistance Seminar Series) Presenter
Well, I think we can all agree that 2020 has been and interesting year so far. The Corona Virus has made us all hang up our dancing shoes and microphones while we sit out a global pandemic. But like almost everything, out of something bad, sometimes, you find something good. There were people across the global getting together online trying dancing and caller education and Jeremy Butler (VA) got in touch with some CALLERLAB Accredited Caller Coaches and asked them to get a little more formal. So we did.
We began what I dubbed the C. L. A. S. S. (Corona Learning Assistance Seminar Series) on Saturday April 4, 2020 with the great Tony Oxendine giving his first ever online presentation. Yours truly was the 4th person up to the virtual podium and my talk is listed below for your viewing pleasure. I've also attached here the PowerPoint presentation I used as well as the Taminations sequences I utilized. Hope it helps clarify anything that I discussed.
By the way, if you are looking to see the entire line up for this online series, we've captured that over on the GSI Callers School Website. (Grand Square International). I've included a link to that page for you here.
Also just in case you need it here's a link to the Taminations Sequencer I use in the presentation below. Enjoy!

June 2015 - Key Note Speech - 64th National Square Dance Convention in Springfield, Mass
There was over 4000 people that showed up in Springfield mid-June 2015, and I'd like to think they all had a great time. Kudos to all the committee members who put in over TWO YEARS of work in order to make everything run as smooth as possible. Incredible dedication and effort.
One of the highlights of the convention for me, was being asked to present the Key Note Speech. And to make it even better, I got to share the honor with my calling partner and best friend of 33 years, Paul Cote. They asked us to share some opinions and perspectives on Square Dancing and we hope we didn't disappoint. Many people have reached out to me through Facebook and email, wanting a copy of the presentation. While none exist, we do have this video of the event courtesy of Matt Vesci and his iPhone.
Paul and I will be in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2017 for the 66th National Convention! Hope to see you there!

July 2012 - Singer - Rolling in the Deep
(This video was recorded by D. Carbonell, a dancer at the Nubble Lighthouse Keepers Square Dance Club of Well, Maine.)
this was recorded by a dancer at an average Mainstream Square Dance. Most of the dancers are from the Maine/NH area; but the square closest to the camera had guests from Seattle, Washington visting the region. It was a pleasure to meet them and I told the young lady in the square I would do a song from "her generation". that led me to choosing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep". this singing call is on EGO Recordings and is an example of the type of music that EGO Recordings is quickly becoming known for. I think they did a beautiful job of piecing together this grammy award winning song. And though I'm no Adele - I'd also like to think I do it a little justice myself.

November 2007 - Singer - New Attitude
(This was originally recorded by L.Costello in November 2007 and uploaded to YouTube in February 2009.)
The second half of the tip above is included below. The singing call is the when the choreography usually gets a little easier and the caller gets to attempt to sing. Now, all Square Dance singing call music is put together in seven 64-beat phrases, so it is never the original song as you would hear it on the radio. This is song is "I've Got a New Attitude", originally sung by Patti LaBelle sometime in the 80's. It's not a jaw dropper by any means, but it gets the job done. The lyrics have me singing - "Ohh, ohh, ohh, ohh, oooohh" throughout, which I mock very early on.
