April 2011 - Extended Applications
This a presentation that I wrote and spoke to during the 2011 CALLERLAB convention in Las Vegas, NV. I gave this talk with Jon Jones and Bill Eyler. Extended applications looks at a basic sqaure dance move and the lengths upon which that definition and be expanded and explored. I don't think enough callers really analyze the calls and then work within average dancer's ability to help them succeed. The idea is to take something most find "different", and make it simple to accomplish. The article was my attempt to show my thought process as to how I try to accomplish this.
August 2008 - Comment - An article by Jim Mayo
This was originally printed in the Northeast Square Dancer Magazine - the link to the original article is here. The article is a monthly column written by Jim Mayo. Jim has been a mentor of mine having taught two different schools which I attended and was on staff with me at the first caller's school I taught. Jim has over 50 years of calling experience and is a founding member of CALLERLAB and the publisher of many articles and papers on square dancing. His latest book "Step by Step through Modern Western Square Dancing" is available through Barnes and Noble's web site linked here.
April 2001 - Alternative Patter Music
This was my first presentation at CALLERLAB. I was on the panel with John Sybalsky and Jerry Jestin. My thanks go out to Clark Baker for organizing this "first of its kind" panel for CALLERLAB and for inviting me to speak. Clark maintains a webpage of all the alternative music panels in which he has participated and that information is here should you be interested.
